World Cruise Day 30/152 - Sea Day - Food coma and airborne marine life

Cruise day: 30/152
Ports days: 10
Sea days: 20
Countries: 4
Continents: 1
Ports: 7

We are on our final sea day before our return to Costa Rica. Today was bridge day.  We attended beginner's bridge at 10 AM, intermediate bridge at 11 AM, and played social bridge from 2:00 - 3:30PM.  Wow!  That's a lot of bridge!

Of course, we fit in trivia at 12:30 PM.  They have changed trivia hosts during the cruise, and that was evident today as 12 of the 15 questions were questions we've already heard on this cruise! That helped us score a 13/15, but that wasn't enough as several 14s took the title. On playing cards, which king does not have a mustache? Hearts.  What is the name of the dryest South American desert with an average of 15mm of rain annually?  The Atacama Desert in Chile.

Lunch was interesting today.  What do you like on your hamburger?  Avocado?  Check.  Lobsters?  Also, check!

As long as we're talking about food, I'll address dinner too.  Filets and tomahawk steaks?  Check!  Skirt steak? Check! Chicken fried steak?  Check!

Suffice it to say that we ate very, very well again today.

This afternoon, after lunch and bridge, we spent some time on the balcony.  Yesterday, we noted that we didn't see any other ships.  We attributed that to the fact that we were much closer to shore than normal and out of the normal ship channels.  Finally, today, we spotted another vessel.

We always watch for the small flying fish that seem to be prevalent around cruise ships.  So far, we've only spotted a few.  Today, with the waves rocking a bit, they were jumping and flying.  I don't know what specific breed they are, but they jump out of the water and remain airborne for quite a distance before slamming back into the water. I don't know the specific species of fish, and I can't get a good enough photo to use Google Lens to make a guess.

They are small, perhaps a few inches.  They are silvery and catch the sun.  Since they are so small, and they are only out of the water for a few seconds, it's hard to get a good photo.  This is the best I can do.

Here is a shot featuring multiple fish airborne.  The second photo is a copy with the fish highlighted.

Here's another pair of photos, the second highlighted.

They are really fun to watch.

Tonight's entertainment was a Liar's Club where four crew members sat on stage. They were given a word and each had to provide their definition of the word.  The audience then voted on who was providing the actual correct answer versus those that were lying.

It was totally inappropriate, rude, and hilarious!  The audience was laughing and everyone had a great time.  Well, everyone except Aaron, the cruise director, who, as the host, seemed somewhat bothered by the inappropriate answers provided by the panel.  That simply added to the entertainment value.

Wenis

A slang word for the excess or loose skin at the joint of one's elbow.

Hyprosexia

A short attention span.

Baggywrinkle

Rope yarns wound around parts of a ship's rigging to prevent chafe.

Smout

Scottish slang for an undersized person.

Erectarine

A crude rhythm instrument consisting of a mop handle with bottle caps.

It was great fun and we'd love to see Viking do more of this type of entertainment.

Tomorrow - Puntarenas, Costa Rica, and a crocodile safari boat ride!

  1. We have seen Liar's Club on Princess cruise ships many times. Funny and entertaining. Food is looking mighty fine.
