This is the inaugural post for our travel blog, and what a start it is!
This morning, we were to fly from Orlando to Atlanta and then on to Bermuda to sail on the Viking Orion for an eight-day Bermuda cruise. We did the mandatory prerequisite COVID testing within three days of travel. We thought we were ready to go.
That is until we got to the airport and discovered that we both missed a one-line item way back in some email from Viking stating that we also had to request travel authorization from the Bermudian government no greater than three days before arrival. Whoops. Without that, we weren't allowed to board the plane.
So, what do you do? Pivot!
We submitted the forms online, but the office wouldn't open for another hour. There was no other flight today into Bermuda. Plus, the earliest we could request entrance was tomorrow. Delta quickly rerouted us - today to JFK in New York and then tomorrow into Bermuda.
Once the Bermudian travel office opened, I called and they promptly approved our travel.
So, we are booked in to JFK early this afternoon. What to do? We booked a stay in the TWA Hotel! If you don't know what that is, Google it. It is a super-cool retro hotel built in the old TWA terminal at JFK.
We called Viking and since the ship isn't moving today and will still be in Hamilton tomorrow, they will pick us up and transfer us to the ship tomorrow.
While we'll miss the first night on the ship, we'll get there tomorrow mid-afternoon and will have an adventure tonight in New York.
So, YEA Burmuda, YEA Delta, and YEA Viking for helping save our trip.
On to New York!
Have a fabulous time!!
