Tick, tick, tick - that's what we awoke to. It was our veranda door creaking with the ship's movement overnight and all day today. We are heading between Valparaiso & Puerto Montt, Chile and we're bouncing around a bit. Nothing violent, but based on others' comments, it is enough to bother several people. There was no bridge today, so perhaps our instructor wasn't feeling up to it today.
Trivia was another bust, and we have nobody to blame but ourselves. We talked ourselves out of three correct answers and that would have tied us for first place. In what sport did the phrase, "step up to the plate" originate. Obvious answer: Baseball. Not so obvious: Cricket. We chose cricket - it was baseball. Doh! What lies at the center of the Milky Way galaxy. Obvious answer: a black hole. But, the galaxy is expanding, so that can't be it. Answer: a black hole. From what country does brie cheese originate. Sounds French - but probably a trick question - Switzerland. It was France. Oh well, we learned to stop over-thinking. What is the only animal that has been documented as hunting humans? Polar bear. I guess mosquitoes don't count.
The World Cafe featured a nice Italian spread for lunch today. Arlona enjoyed the Pasta e Fagioli soup, bacon-wrapped chicken, and veal scallopini. I had fried shrimp, calamari, and potatoes.
With nothing much on the agenda this afternoon, temperatures in the 60s with overcast skies, and a moving ship, a little reading time was in order. That's an OK thing given yesterday's 8-hour excursion and tomorrow's 7.5-hour excursion.
The view approaching the Explorer's Bar on deck 7 was pretty amazing. The windows look straight out over the bow of the ship. It's hard to make out, but the window is completely filled with the sea. It was a little unnerving. It was partly a function of being down the hall, as when we moved forward into the bar, the movement didn't look as dramatic. Still, looking forward and seeing nothing but water - wow.
Bina, a friend of ours who is Indian was in heaven and asked if she could eat this every single day. We ate with Bina and her husband, John and our friends Jim & Lynne. They all raved about the food. We wimped out and had the pizza folks whip us up a pepperoni, sausage, bacon, double cheese pizza and it was awesome.
The desserts looked amazing, but we were all too full.
We are expected to anchor in Puerto Montt, Chile tomorrow morning around 8:30 AM. We have a 7.5-hour excursion that will take us to All Saints Lake, also known as Emerald Lake. Teddy Roosevelt called it the most beautiful lake in the world. We will also visit Petrohue Falls and Puerto Varas. At least we'll get rocked to sleep tonight.
Yah, I'm not really a fan of Indian food either! I was thinking of the rough seas.....we've been on 20 + cruises....the 2 cruises I "felt" the seas were when we had a balcony. With balcony rooms your head/feet are forward/aft while sleeping so your head and feet are going up and down all night.while on an inside room your head/feet are starboard/port and youre being rocked side to side like a baby! Wothbthat and total darkness and silence (plus the huge $ difference) we always choose an inside room! But I'm thinking you mention no inside rooms on the star!
