World Cruise Day 65/152 - Sea Day - 800 bottles of wine on the wall, 800 bottles of wine...

Cruise day: 65/152
Ports days: 19
Sea days: 46
Countries: 7
Continents: 3
Ports: 12

It was a-rockin' and a-rollin' today on the Viking Star.  No music - the ship.  The seas were a bit choppy and you could clearly see folks staggering down the halls.  No violent movement, more like, I feel like I'm walking uphill...no, wait, now I feel like I'm walking downhill...

That certainly presented more of a challenge to the more mobility-challenged passengers, but on days like this, Cruise Director, Aaron, reminds folks to walk low and wide.  According to the current and predicted winds on windy.com, we're sailing into constant 27MPH winds and will continue to do so well into tomorrow.  That means that we will continue pitching and rolling for a while.

Bridge lessons continue to be frustrating, but playing through hands for another hour after class is both fun and educational as we play actual real-world scenarios.

We finished one answer out of the points in trivia again today, back to our sweet spot in the scoring.  The goofs:
  • What year did the Berlin wall come down?
    • 1989 - we thought it was still when Regan was in office and guessed 1987
  • How many timezones are there in Russia?
    • 11 - we thought 8
  • In Peter Pan, what was the name of Wendy's dog?
    • Nana - we had nada - and I mean "nothing" - we wrote down "Spot" :-)
At lunch today, they decorated the dessert area with beautiful colored lace sugar rolls.

The rest of the day was low-key for us.  We did some reading and Arlona took a brief nap.  I've talked about the ongoing maintenance on the ship.  At dinner, our friends, John & Bina said they got a knock on their door today.  Maintenence was there to regrout their shower.  Their assumption is that their cabin steward noticed something during cleaning and put in a request.  Their shower was out of commission for four hours - not a big deal. It is now freshly grouted and up to standards. Nice!

Here's today's interesting tidbit - the financial officer was going over figures for consumption and purchasing.  The Viking Star goes through 800 - yes, eight hundred - bottles of wine each and every day on this World Cruise.  There are 967 folks on this ship, crew included.  Yes, the crew does get to drink wine with their meals.  So, between passenger consumption, crew consumption, and any that is used for cooking, that comes out to 0.873 bottles of wine per person per day.  Wow!  As I mentioned in another post, we go through 300 rolls of toilet paper, or about 1/3 roll per person per day.  If you remember my blog that showed Johann's replacement desk, that works out to about 1/2 of a desk used daily. :-)

Slow day = short blog.  It will be a bumpy and rocky night, and one more sea day until Madeira.
