Brr...it is sunny but chilly with temperatures peaking at about 51-degrees. Not exactly the South Pacific weather we signed up for. Still, nice blue skies and sunshine are certainly welcome.
What's not welcome is the continued up & down with our internet access. It seems to be a topic of conversation everywhere we turn. We are still hoping that it will get fixed in the coming few days.
We did our bridge thing this morning, followed by trivia where once again, we were just out of the points. The misses:
- 3,000 of what animal attacked Napoleon?
- Turns out it was rabbits - was this where Monty Python got the killer rabbit idea?
- Finish the Mark Twain quote: "Man is the only animal that blushes. ..."
- "Or needs to."
- In what period did the dinosaurs all die?
- Cretaceous (we went with the obvious Jurassic)
- Name three rivers that Viking Ocean vessels cruise on.
- Amazon, Thames, St. Lawrence
- What is the name for an earthquake-like event when it happens on the moon?
- We overthought it and said, lunarquake. Nope - moonquake
- What is the first and last name of the person that started the Gucci brand?
- Guccio Gucci
As we were eating lunch, we saw a ship that didn't look like the other ships we typically see.
Then, we noticed that a helicopter was flying near it.
A little time later, we heard several loud roars. Eventually, the Captain came on and announced that what we are seeing are naval exercises and military pilots seem to like to fly close to beautiful cruise ships and take a look. No, they aren't protecting us from attack nor are they intending to attack us. Our captain has a great sense of humor. He has been extended an extra month and we couldn't be happier.
Dinner tonight took on a Greek flair in anticipation of our arrival in Corfu tomorrow morning. Chef Thomas prepared a Souvlaki & Baklava dinner on the pool deck.
The appetizers included two different types of hummus, stuffed grape leaves, falafel, and shrimp with feta cheese |
Dinner featured pork, beef, chicken, and shrimp skewers, Greek salad, tzatziki, hummus, eggplant, roasted potato wedges, and pita |
Dessert included glazed strawberries and vanilla ice cream as well as almond, pistachio, and cashew baklava. |
Tonight's entertainment was a return performance from comedian Jeff Stevenson. We once again laughed and enjoyed the performance.
Tomorrow, we visit Greece for the first time, in Corfu. We are looking forward to a new experience in a really old place.
