We enjoyed a sea day today after our three-day run in Greece. We had the usual bridge and trivia to start the day. Today's trivia was movie quotes - name the movie. We nailed 14/15, missing only one due to my poor memory. The quote was, "...you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?" Of course, that is Dirty Harry, but I thought that in a previous trivia, we learned this was from the second movie, Magnum Force. I was wrong, and because of that, we lost. Doh! I think the quote I was remembering is, "A man's got to know his limitations" - again, Dirty Harry said it, but that was from Magnum Force.
The tiebreakers were interesting.
- How many James Bond movies have been filmed?
- How many actors have played James Bond?
- 7 - David Niven, George Lazenby, Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan, Timothy Dalton, Daniel Craig
We headed to lunch and enjoyed being able to eat outside on the aquavit deck since the temperature is rising. It was sunny and in the 60s today and we look forward to the weather improving.
This guy was enjoying the weather as well.

It seemed perfectly happy to catch a ride along with us |
We decided to spend the afternoon in the Spa. The Spa on Viking has two different facilities. The treatment facility, where you can get facials, massages, and such is a fee-based facility where you pay for the specific treatments you want. The other side is the therapy side and that is included in your cruise fare. This is where we spent an hour this afternoon.
Viking limits access to the Spa to ten guests per hour and you have to book reservations. We called at 2:30pm and were able to get a 3PM reservation. For most of the hour, we were the only ones in the spa.
Here's a look at the women's locker facility.
Lockers are provided with slides and robes |
There is a sauna available in the locker area |
A cold plunge pool is available if you want a cool plunge after the sauna |
The showers are tiled and spacious |
This is a swimsuit dryer that spins the water out of your suit, leaving it barely damp |
The men's lockers are similar |
It features lockers, a sauna, plunge pool, and showers |
There is also a lounge area in the locker facility |
The main room features lounge chairs with subdued under-chair lighting - that's the steam room on the right and the snow grotto on the left |
The steam room features L-shaped bench seating |
Across from the steam room is the snow grotto featuring near-freezing temperatures and actual snow - great for a cool down after the steam room |
There is also a cold bucket dump next to the steam room for those that prefer that type of cool-down
The therapy pool features a dedicated hot tub |
The therapy pool has two areas that produce bubbles for therapeutic benefit - there is a nice artificial fireplace along the back of the pool |
There is also a full-body shower in the main therapy area for rinsing off - it features two levels of rain head as well as a solid vertical stream and six body sprays.
It was a nice, relaxing afternoon, allowing the steam, cold, and warm water to wash away any stress and aches.
We met friends in the Explorers' Bar to help celebrate a friend's 70th birthday. After that, we enjoyed dinner with them and then came back to the room to watch the port talk about Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This will be Viking's first visit to Saudi Arabia, and things are still a little in flux in terms of dress code and expectations. We expect more information to be forthcoming. They have until Tuesday to work things out and communicate everything to all of us.
Tonight, we will be entering the Suez Canal at Port Said, Egypt with the main transit occurring tomorrow, exiting tomorrow afternoon into the Red Sea at Suez, Egypt. The sun will rise tomorrow morning at 5:46am, and the plan is to be up to see (and photograph) the sunrise over the Sinai Desert. We'll see how that goes.
That was a fabulous tour of the spa. Thank you Arlona for demonstrating the facility.
