Antarctic Cruise Day 14/40 - sea day - We have escorts

Antarctic Cruise Day 14 / 40 - sea day 2/11 - Escorts

Trip day: 14 / 40
Port days: 6
Sea days: 7
Countries: 3
Continents: 2
Ports: 3

This morning, we attended marine biologist, Chris's lecture on hydrothermal vents and ridges.  It was an interesting discussion of underwater life in extreme conditions as well as some science around continental plates and how life finds a way.

Just before the lecture, we were notified that we would be able to book our Antarctic expeditions today. We jumped at the chance and got our submarine expedition booked and several landings, special operations boat tours, Zodiac tours, and kayak tours.

After lunch, we found ourselves atop the Baggo winner's platform once again, edging out the crew by the toss of a single beanbag - we were rewarded with South African Sunset drinks from the fabulous beverage team

Right at the end of Baggo, a snowy egret bumped the window in The Aula

It stood for a while, seemingly stunned, before taking wing again

Boobys joined us today, hunting the numerous flying fish in the area.

This one opted to hitch a ride on the searchlight for a while

You lookin' at me?  You lookin' at me?!?

Tonight, they had a drink of the day celebration on the bow with South African Sunset drinks.  It was a lovely sail, with light breezes, sunny skies, and lots of boobys diving for flying fish.

The outstanding beverage manager, Tammy, served the beverages

There was a faint rainbow behind us in the clouds

Tonight, the chef prepared an Indian feast.

A somewhat less-than-traditional drink menu

Arlona tried a little sushi and then we split a t-bone

After dinner, we headed to our usual spot in the Explorers' Bar to finish this blog.

Tomorrow is day 3/11 of sea days to the Falkland Islands.

  3. After waiting for two years for our Antarctic cruise, we had to cancel with just 3 weeks out. 5 years in remission and my little alien decided to make an unexpected visit. I’m really enjoying your blog and will live vicariously through it. I followed the WC and will continue to follow. Maybe one day we will meet at the Explores Bar.
