Antarctic Cruise Day 21 / 40 - sea day 9/11 -sea day - tied our record

Antarctic Cruise Day 21 / 40 - sea day 9/11 - was that an orca?

Trip day: 21 / 40
Port days: 6
Sea days: 14
Countries: 3
Continents: 2
Ports: 3

Today, we tied our record for most consecutive days at sea with nine days.  We did that on the world cruise, sailing from Montevideo, Uruguay to Cabo Verde.  Today marks our ninth day since sailing, this time from Cabo Verde.  Tomorrow, and then Tuesday, we'll set new personal bests before arriving in the Falklands on Wednesday.

Today saw additional floatation testing on our decorated boat for the boat-building competition and a final run-through for our cocktail competition - both of which take place tomorrow.

The guests finally redeemed themselves against the crew in Baggo today.  I'm wondering if the officers are throwing the game to garner better reviews. :-)

Here I am, throwing some intimidation as Entertainment Manager, Arann, makes the crew's final toss

We were victorious again in trivia as well, coming out on top in a two-team game.  Here is today's picture game - Name the Landmark.

  1. Angkor Wat
  2. Taj Mahal
  3. Burj Khalifa
  4. Mt. Rushmore
  5. Mont-Saint-Michel
  6. The Acropolis
Out two misses today:
  • Who was the Roman god of fire?
    • We didn't know - it is Vulcan
  • Fruit, Cricket, and Horseshoe are varieties of what?
    • We said fly - they are all bats
Lunch featured fresh-made Caesar salads, all constructed inside a wheel of parmesan cheese.  The cook put the lettuce and dressing into the wheel and mixed everything while simultaneously scraping some fresh parmesan goodness into the salad.

Fresh toppings including more thinly sliced parmesan was available - I skipped the anchovies

After lunch, I went out to try taking some photos of the increasing bird population.

I also got a lucky shot of a shy orca (killer whale), just peaking its fin above the surface. Well, I think it is an orca - the naturalists on the ship said it was likely a female orca.

Tonight, Entertainment Manager, Arann, performed his show of jazz and show tunes.

He sang songs from Michael Bublé, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Van Morrison, plus tunes from Les Misérables and Beauty and the Beast.  He is quite talented and everyone enjoyed this performance.

Tomorrow is a big day.  We will compete in the boat-building competition and cocktail competition. We'll also set a new record for most consecutive days at sea. *whew*
