2023 Alaska, Asia, Australia, Arabian Peninsula Trip
Day 76/105 - Sea Day in the Coral Sea
It is December 1 and we are sailing south in the Coral Sea. With no excursions on this sea day, we could sleep a little longer this morning, which was nice. At breakfast, a new head waiter was in the World Café and he said we looked familiar. He just boarded in Darwin and as it turns out was also on the world cruise with us. Now we have one more familiar face on this journey.
Guess what this is:
This is a happy group of officers who are thoroughly trouncing the guests in Baggo |
The first round had us tossing the bag backward over our heads.
In the second round, we tossed normally, but from the middle landing on the staircase.
In the final round, we had to toss from the top of the staircase with points awarded to the other team if we landed on their board.
That is a long way down |
In the end, the officers continued their unbeaten streak and we all had a lot of laughs.
We spent the rest of the morning being interviewed by a fellow passenger. We met Terri Colby yesterday on our Whitsunday sailing excursion. She is a freelance writer working on an article about what she called "long-haul" cruisers - folks that cruise for 30 or more days in a row. Our recent travels qualified us as a potential source of information for the article and we were happy to oblige. She hopes to sell the article to a magazine, so you may see our smiling faces in print sometime.
Lots of folks have asked where we got the T-shirts. Our daughter got them for us as a present. They are available from an exclusive boutique online retailer - Amazon.
Harry went back to picture trivia today - this time it was logos. He presented 15 logos and we had to identify the company. We scored 12/15, but one team nailed all 15, winning the mimosas and bragging rights.

Now, for the boobies...
Arlona was on the deck and said she thought she saw brown boobies. I went out a little later and sure enough, several of them were flying about and I was able to get a few decent captures.
Dragging a wing |
We watched the port talk for tomorrow's destination, Mooloolaba, Australia, and hit up the Explorers' Bar for pre-dinner libations. Tonight, the culinary and restaurant teams put together a special dinner, fish & chips on the pool deck.
Entertainment was provided by guitarist and singer, Indra |
A cold beer complimented the fish & chips |
Breadsticks with dips |
Deconstructed salad |
Fish & chips, cole slaw, mushy peas |
They also had a bread pudding dessert that we skipped. The roof was fully open so we dined al fresco and it was terrific. I wish Viking had figured out how to do more special events like this earlier as this was great.
Our tour to the Australia Zoo didn’t depart until 11 a.m. tomorrow. We checked to see if the earlier tours had cancelations and we were in luck, so now, we’re heading out at 9:30 a.m. and that should give us a little more time to explore the town. We’re meeting my cousin for beers and a bite at 3 p.m. so tomorrow should be a fun day.
