2023 Alaska, Asia, Australia, Arabian Peninsula Trip
Day 103/105 - Cruise day #10 - Abu Dhabi, UAE - We tried to see more but...
Today was a bit of a bust. We planned to take the shuttle bus to the Marina Mall area and explore a bit. The Destination Services desk told us that shuttles left every 30 minutes, starting at 10 a.m. We went down for the 11:30 shuttle only to be told by the driver that they only leave on the hour - not every 30 minutes, and that they don't run at all between 1 and 2. So, we could wait 40 minutes for a bus but we'd have to wait three hours for a return bus. We bailed. Another example of poor Oceania communication.
We dedicated some time to packing.
Since we were remaining on the ship, we decided to maximize our Big O points by taking part in bocce and shuffleboard. As we finished up, we saw some of the daredevil crew handling the ongoing painting of the ship.
We participated in the afternoon trivia and once again, won with our partners from The Villages. This was the last opportunity to earn Big O points so we were set for the point redemption. We had amassed a fair number of points and came away with a pretty good haul of Oceania swag.
Two jackets, three polos, a t-shirt, a tote bag, a hat, and a visor |
It was time for pre-dinner cocktails from our favorite bartender, Mickey.
After we went to dinner, we caught another of the drone shows flown over The Louvre Museum in Abu Dhabi.
The moon was a vibrant orange tonight |
Mimicking the shape of the Sheikh Zayed Museum buildings |
Drawing shapes in the air |
This was the finale - it slowly faded out from bottom to top |
The show flies four times each night and each is a unique show. We're glad we were able to catch a couple of them.
We played trivia again with our other partners from Minnesota. We absolutely sucked, scoring 6/15. But, the difficulty of the questions wasn't just a problem for us, because at 6/15, we tied for the win! No more points, but we have bragging rights until the next cruise.
We got back to our room and put out our bags. They needed to be in the hall by 10 p.m. so the crew could take them down for us. Because of our 9:30 a.m. flight out of Dubai, we will need to disembark at 5 a.m. tomorrow morning to catch our transfer bus. That means we'll be up at 3:45 a.m. or so to grab a bite to eat and wrap up packing the carry-on luggage. Tomorrow will be an incredibly long day with about 31 hours from ship to home.
