Sapphire Princess South Pacific Cruise Day 27 - Sea Day #2 back to L.A. - the routine continues
We continue our eight-day trek northerly through the Pacific. I checked and this morning, we were approximately seven degrees of longitude south of the equator. One degree of latitude is approximately 69 miles, so that equates to roughly 480 statute miles, give or take. The Captain, in his daily Sea Day announcement, said that we will cross the equator during the day tomorrow. In his announcement, he mentioned that there was a slight uptick in cases of gastrointestinal illness, but nothing severe and it remains well-managed. I expect that with the current procedures in place, we will see the numbers drop to zero in two to three days as it runs its course.
He also provided an update on the passenger who was rescued from the water and airlifted from Dravuni Island. The Captain had given the names of the two crew members who were instrumental in the rescue. Today, with permission, he publically gave the name of the passenger, a nurse, who performed live-saving chest compressions on the patient once he was brought to shore. Everyone in earshot broke into rousing applause. It isn't every day that you get to take a cruise and save someone's life along the way. The patient continues to recover nicely and is grateful that the passengers and crew cared enough to save his life. What a great story.
Speaking of the Captain, Captain McBain wandered through the buffet at breakfast, stopping at tables and talking with passengers.
He is a genuinely nice man who really cares about the passenger experience |
As we returned to our room, the maintenance woes on the ship continued with yet another leak dripping into a bucket around the corner from our room.
Arlona continued uke lessons and we came very close in all trivia matches today, but just out of the win.

We got in more reading time this afternoon. The seas calmed a bit, but we were still banging the waves, sending spray in the air and creating beautiful rainbows.
We did the usual evening routine with a pre-dinner cocktail at Explorers, dinner at the International, and a nightcap and games back at Explorers. Tonight was identifying the song and title of 90s songs. It wasn't our sweet spot, but our team of six got 30 of the possible 40 points - not a bad showing.
We headed back to the room. They have a bunch of episodes on The Love Boat available on the TV so we've been watching, and laughing at them. The 70s hair, meeting, falling in love, and getting engaged while on a seven-day cruise - wow! The guest stars have been a who's who of actors and actresses of that period. It is also funny that some folks appeared on multiple episodes, as different people! We're watching the third episode with Dick Van Patten (The Dad from Eight is Enough), and he's played a different person in all three episodes. It's been a fun throwback.
No time change for a couple of days so tomorrow will be a nice, normal, 24-hour day.
