Sapphire Princess South Pacific Cruise Day 29 - Sea Day #4 back to L.A. - last laundry load
This morning's trivia was brutal, with interesting yet obscure information. We missed a couple on progressive as well.
- When was the first color photo taken?
- We guessed 1846 and were close - 1861 - no points for close
- Cancun is in which Mexican state?
- Quintana Roo - we should have known this one
- What TV show featured the band, The Be Sharps?
- Again, we should have known - The Simpsons
- Robert DeNiro auditioned for what role in The Godfather?
- From what language does the word, algebra originate?
- In the movie From Dusk to Dawn, what Mexican actress had the lead?
- Salma Hayek - never saw the movie
- Tom Cruise considered pursuing which sport as a career?
- We guessed auto racing - it turns out he wanted to be a professional wrestler until a high school knee injury sidelined him
- What is Canada's most populous city?
- We guessed Montreal, but that is much smaller than Toronto
- What Canadian province is the only one where Pepsi outsells Coke?
- We should have thought about as Quebec goes against nearly everything in the country
- Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous are all periods in what era (Cenozoic, Mesozoic, Paleozoic)?
- We reasoned that since researchers are called paleontologists, it would be Paleozoic, but it was Mesozoic
- True or false - baby zebras are born without stripes?
- We thought it was true, but nope - they are born with stripes - just brown ones and they turn black between 9 and 18 months old
While at trivia, this morning in Club Fusion as the Explorers Bar was being used for an art auction, our trivia partners asked if we've ever been down those stairs. Stairs? What stairs?
|
Those stairs - at the back of Club Fusion! |
I pulled up the ship's map in the Princess app and checked it out.
|
OK, I see the stairs in the lower left corner |
|
Checking Deck #6, it looks like it is the "View Bar" |
|
Actually, it is the Wake View Bar and this is the description |
Let's check it out.
|
Down we go |
|
Around and around |
|
Wow - this looks nice! |
|
A cozy little bar area with six seats |
|
Lots of small tables - a nice, intimate setting |
|
Several portholes looking out the back of the ship |
|
Hence the name, Wake View Bar |
|
This place looks great! |
I next checked the printed Princess Patter daily schedule to see when it was open. It wasn't there. The bar didn't have any stock and the refrigerators were not powered up. It looks like they have this terrific space, but it is never open. What a shame.
This afternoon saw us doing another load of laundry - our second of the cruise. We will have plenty of clean clothes to get us from today, Thursday, until Tuesday when we travel home. 32 days, two loads of laundry. $12. Not too bad.
|
$3 for the washer token, $3 for the dryer token |
|
Washy-washy |
With laundry done, we relaxed for a bit before afternoon trivia and then headed to Explorers before dinner. As we sat there, the dinner menu didn't excite us, so once again, we opted for Ocean Now delivery and we ate right at the bar. A club sandwich for me and chicken fingers for Arlona, plus chocolate cake to split. All was right with the world.
We stuck around for a Rock & Roll trivia game. We scored 30/40 coming up with artist and title for 20 songs. There were some really obscure ones so we felt good with our score, especially when 33/40 got the win. Not too shabby.
Tonight, we lose yet another hour, so we headed to the room to watch another Love Boat and get a little earlier bedtime. I took a peek outside. Even though we're in the Northern Hemisphere, the Southern Cross was still readily visible.
We received a letter in our room tonight. It states that since our voyage exceeds 30 days, we are required to revisit our muster station on May 5 between 10 A.M. and noon, checking in with our medallions. We've been on much longer cruises and this is the first time we have had to do this, so we find it kind of odd and inconvenient. First-world problems, I know, but still, odd.
Time to shift the clock forward an hour to UTC-8, or four hours behind the U.S. East Coast. One more hour to lose before docking in San Pedro, before the three-hour loss on the plane ride home next Tuesday.
Tomorrow is sea day 5/8 on the way to San Pedro.
