Grand Africa Cruise Trip Day 40/96 - Sea Day and Time Travel off Africa's East Coast
We time-traveled again last night, shifting to UTC+3, or eight hours ahead of the U.S. East Coast, which got us matched up with the time in Tanzania, our next two ports of call. So, exactly where are we?
We are here, sailing north from Mozambique to Tanzania |
We left The Island of Mozambique yesterday afternoon en route to Zanzibar, Tanzania Sunday through Tuesday, January 5-7, and then Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Wednesday, January 8 |
This morning started with Baggo. We had a newcomer who said she didn't play and thought she'd score zero. She proceeded to net the top score. A ringer was in our midst! Today, they did a two-person playoff among the top two scorers and I was in the #2 position. I stepped up in the three-round playoff, winning Arlona a spiffy white Seabourn hat.
Today's art project was beading. Arlona made a nice earring and bracelet set.
By the time this cruise is over, Arlona will need a new jewelry cabinet |
Trivia at noon was fine until we fell apart in round #3 and the bonus round. Our mistakes:
- What mega-artist scored seven consecutive Billboard #1 hits in 1985-1988?
- We thought Michael Jackson, Madonna, or Whitney Houston and guessed MJ - it was Whitney
- In Greek mythology, who was Apollo's twin sister
- We guessed Athena - it was Artemis
- In what year did the Euro start in physical circulation?
- We guessed 2004 - it went live in 1999 but bills and coins didn't appear until 2002
We were bridesmaids once again in Name That Tune this afternoon. It was just random music over the past few decades, but the songs were tough and we only scored 24/40, good enough for second place. The winning team has a ringer who is a huge music junkie. They scored 35/40 with incredibly difficult songs. It was pretty impressive.
In other news, the Christmas decorations started coming down, officially ending the holiday season here on Sojourn. The ship is slowly returning to its unadorned state. It's always sad to see all the lights and decorations disappear. One place that hasn't been hit as of tonight was the Observation Bar. The tree was still there and fully lit tonight.
It was a nice evening with smooth seas. The skies cooperated for a nice sunset.
We enjoyed margaritas before going to The Restaurant for a nice dinner by ourselves.
We've attended several hosted dinners and it was nice to just have dinner with the two of us. We called it an early evening, returning to our suite and watching a movie. These one-hour shifts forward seem to take more of a toll on me now that I am a certified senior citizen. Tomorrow starts a four-day port streak with three full days in Zanzibar and one day in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania so a quiet evening sounded just right.
