20250116 Seabourn Sojourn Grand Africa Cruise Day 52/96 - Sea Day

Grand Africa Cruise Trip Day 52/96 - Sea Day Slow Boat

The Indian Ocean was smooth like butter this morning.

It was another sea day so that meant Baggo. In a close game, I lost out by ten points. Arlona also did well, finishing near the top.

Garry, making a toss as Entertainment Manager, Rhys, looks on

In a twist, they changed the rules keeping all the same scoring, but if any bag missed landing on/in the board, it took 20 points away from your score. It made today's competition fun with a lot of laughing as many people finished in the negative.

Today was the start of a new progressive trivia. We had a better day than yesterday. We're in the middle of the pack, but the scores are tight and we have several sea days to go. The goofs today:
  • How many vowels are on the middle row of a standard keyboard?
    • We thought two - A & I, but only A is in the middle, the other four are in the top row
  • Spandau is an area in what European city?
    • We guessed Warsaw - it was Berlin
  • Who did Mark Antony divorce in favor of Cleopatra?
    • We didn't know - it was Octavia
  • What is the only song in Rolling Stone's list of the 500 best songs of all time that was not recorded in English?
    • We guessed 99 Luftballons and felt silly for not thinking of La Bamba
Arlona continued working on her multi-day watercolor project. It still isn't ready but it will be soon. No peeking.

The seas remained calm all afternoon, making for a beautiful day at sea.

We were making great time so Captain Hamish slowed down to about nine knots and we floated smoothly all afternoon.

This afternoon, Seabourn held a meeting for those leaving for the one-week overland trip when we return to Durban, South Africa on January 22. It was a little disorganized as there will be two similar tours scheduled simultaneously and we all were in the same meeting. Still, we got some good information and we're looking forward to this adventure. We will leave the ship in the morning of January 22, returning late on January 28. Our agenda is as follows.
  • Jan 22 - Fly to Johannesburg and spend the evening there
  • Jan 23 - Fly to Zimbabwe and take a sundowner cruise on the Zambezi River between Zimbabwe and Zambia
  • Jan 24 - Game drive, tour Victoria Falls, black rhino conservation experience, and game drive
  • Jan 25 - Game drive, drive into Botswana to Chobe Game Lodge, sunset safari
  • Jan 26 - Sunrise and sunset game drives
  • Jan 27 - Sunrise and sunset game drives
  • Jan 28 - Game drive, fly to Johannesburg and then Cape Town and rejoin Seabourn Sojourn
  • Jan 29 - collapse :-)
We're excited about potentially seeing the African Big Five - elephant, African buffalo, rhinoceros, lion, and leopard plus zebra, giraffe, cheetah, impala, warthog, kudu, hyena, crocodile, antelope, and more. It should be a great adventure.

After the meeting, we went straight to dinner and then to our room. We have an early morning excursion in Antsiranana, Madagascar, our 97th country.
