20250429 Regent Seven Seas Voyager Cruise Bangkok to Dubai, Day 8, Singapore Gardens

Regent Seven Seas Voyager Bangkok to Dubai Day 8 - Singapore - Gardens and Gardens and Regent's internet sucks

Ahh, Singapore. We visited Singapore on our Viking Vancouver to Sydney repositioning cruise in 2023 and really liked the city. Today, we had a pair of tours scheduled. The morning tour took us to the orchid garden, Merlion Park, and Chinatown. The evening tour took us to an evening food venue and a light show at the Supertrees at Gardens by the Bay.

As we waited for our morning tour to begin, we had the good luck to run into the lovely Ola, the wife of our cruise director on our Seabourn Africa cruise. She manages the stores on this cruise, and it was very nice to see her again.

Shortly, we were off for our morning adventure to the National Orchid Garden. I'll let the photos speak for themselves.

So much for group jumping jacks...

REGENT'S ABSOLUTELY CRAPPY, UNUSABLE, CRAP-ASS INTERNET DOES NOT WORK. IF THE INTERNET IS IMPORTANT TO YOU, AVOID REGENT LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Sorry for the rant, but this has taken me more than an hour longer than it should. This doesn't bode well for the rest of this trip.

We left the gardens and headed for Merlion Park.

Orchard Avenue - a high-end shopping district

Our next stop was at Merlion Park. On our last trip to Singapore, the Merlion was boxed up and being refurbished, so we never saw it. Today, it was visible in all its water-spewing glory.

Arlona was a little thirsty

A few military planes took off from the airport

Arlona wanted to bring a little water back to the room

We left to drive to Chinatown.

We did get back to the ship in time to play trivia. We came in third - not bad for just the two of us, as our other team members didn't get back from their excursions in time. Our 10/15 performance had these failures:

  • Which Beatle was in front on the Abbey Road album cover?
    • We guessed Paul, but he is the barefoot one - it was John
  • Joan Crawford once advertised for Coke, Pepsi, or Budweiser
    • We guessed Coke, but it was Pepsi
  • Besides the USA, alligators are native to what country?
    • We guessed Mexico, but it was China
  • Which wife of Henry the 8th wasn't beheaded?
    • We didn't know - it was Catherine Clark
  • What was the name of Anne Frank's diary?
    • She called it Kitty
We left and headed out to the next tour to see Singapore at night. I'd post photos, but I can't. It is so frustrating.

Ah, cops and donuts - it's universal

Cruising through Singapore and stopping to sample chicken satay.

We stopped at a large food area to sample chicken satay and walk around.

We were surprised to see gum, but it wasn't gum - it was gummy chews

Whatever you want to eat - it's here

Interesting snacks.

I did enjoy a Sapporro

Driving to Gardens by the Bay.

Marina Bay Sands with the Singapore Flyer Ferris wheel in the distance

The Super Trees were looking awesome

Here is a look at the Gardens Rhapsody Show at Gardens by the Bay. (I loaded this to YouTube on the free WiFi on our bus - vastly superior to the crap on the ship)

So, sorry for the rant, but there will likely be abbreviated posts for the rest of this journey. I can't waste this many hours trying to get this crappy internet to actually work and they are clueless on how to fix it.

We're still in Singapore tomorrow and are going to an aviary.

  1. Your rant is understandable. I have really enjoyed these photos; they bring back very fond memories of our time in Singapore! Thank you for going out of your way (and perhaps a little out of your mind) to post them. ♥️
