The first two full days of this cruise are sea days. For those unfamiliar with cruising, this means we just sail - no ports to stop at.
So, what do you do on sea days? Celebrity has a full menu of events throughout each sea day. Our favorite thing to do is go to the daily trivia contests. This cruise has been tough - they have some pretty obscure trivia. Of course, that makes it fun. You meet people and learn stuff.
We spent time at the pool, read on our Kindles, ate, drank, hot tubbed - basically just hung out and relaxed.
The second sea day evening was Celebrity's "evening chic" dress.
Most cruise lines are moving away from strict formal nights and going to "chic", where basically, you do whatever you want. We were certainly in the minority going full dress-up with a formal dress for Arlona and a tux for me, but we have fun with it, and that's all that matters.
Life on the ship has returned to mostly normal. The crew still wears masks and some passengers choose to as well. The crew and 95% of passengers are fully vaccinated - the only exceptions are medically ineligible folks, especially children under 12. We've only seen a handful of kids on this cruise. Reports are that we are sailing at just about 40%-50% capacity, depending on where you get your information. Rumors are that we have about 1,250 passengers compared to a full capacity of 2,800+.
As a means to mitigate any COVID outbreaks, we are all required to wear a tracker they dubbed the "tracelet". It is a disk, about the size of a watch, mounted on a wristband. You have to wear it or have it in your pocket at all times. It communicates with any others that are nearby so in the event someone tests positive for COVID, they can identify anyone else that has been in close contact and quarantine folks. They are not testing passengers daily, so I guess a test will only happen if someone comes down with symptoms.
That's it for the first two sea days - off to the Martini bar...
