The walk up to the World Cafe was an interesting one this morning. As we walked up from deck #3 to deck #5, everything got wetter. It appeared that a door somehow became ajar overnight on deck #5, letting the humid sea air in to collide with the ship's air conditioning. The floor on deck #5, the stairway railings and glass, and so on were all wet. Of course, the crew got it taken care of quickly, but it was unusual.
After breakfast, we started gathering materials to build a boat. Why? Viking is sponsoring a boat-building competition using materials you can find on the ship. It should be a lot of fun. The sail out is scheduled for October 17.
Next up was cooking class! Six of us met in Manfredi's for lessons on how to prepare and cook Osso Buco - a veal shank dish.
We also watched as the chef prepared a carbonara pasta dish, potato risotto, and tiramisu.
Of course, the best part was that lunch was the fruit of our labors.

The beverage team has a gathering out back on the Finse Terrace, featuring margaritas and conversation. We then went into The Aula for the daily briefing. I noticed that my OnStar Guardian app thought I was moving. While outside with a clear view of the sky, the GPS fixed my location. For whatever reason, it didn't with Arlona's phone. Therefore, her location looked like she was in Norway, where our ship's internet comes from, while I was off the east coast of Brazil.
You have to love technology |
After another wonderful dinner in the World Cafe, we hit the Explorers' Bar for Name That Tune trivia. A few songs/artists eluded us and our 13/20 score was just edged out by another couple with 14/20. As always, we enjoyed it and stayed for cocktails and conversation. We also enjoyed the classical duo (piano & cello) who provided the music tonight.
Tomorrow, we will be meeting with our boat-building teammates as well as our cocktail contest teammates. We have five more days to develop our strategies to win these competitions.
Tomorrow will be yet another sea day as we continue across the Atlantic Ocean. We are moving pretty well tonight. The winds are strong and the swells are pushing three meters. The captain said we can expect more of the same for the next couple of days.
