20230420 Celebrity Silhouette cruise - Day 1/21 On the road...uh...ocean again!

Celebrity Silhouette cruise day 1 - we're off!

Trip day: 1 / 21

And...we're off!  It's been a while since our Antarctica trip but we're back at sea on a three-week adventure. We sailed this afternoon from Miami on the Celebrity Silhouette.

This morning started early as our driver, Joe, was set to arrive at 7:30AM. We were ready to go with our luggage packed and set to put in the vehicle.

The roughly five-hour drive was uneventful, which is good. We made a stop at the Fort Drum service plaza for "comfort" and spotted this guy - an agama lizard hanging around the service plaza.

We arrived at the ship just before our 1PM boarding time. Boarding was fast and painless. We are located in room 1633 on Deck 11 - Aqua Class. Our room is...a room. It certainly isn't what you'd call "large".

Cruise ship bathrooms aren't very big unless you spring for expensive rooms. And...we don't.

The Silhouette is an older ship in need of refurbishment. This is the extent of the power outlets at the desk - nothing by the beds. Seriously - people need power at the nightstand. This ship needs an update.

We dropped our carry-on bags and grabbed lunch at the buffet. The weather was lovely and we got very nice Miami skyline views.

We unpacked our carry-on bags and spent a little time on the deck watching the bunkering (fueling) operations.

Ultimately, we made out way to our favorite bar on Solstice-class ships - the martini bar. We're officially on a cruise.

We set sail on schedule since we were the only ship in the Por4t of Miami today.

Since we are in an Aqua Class room, we get to dine in Blu - a separate restaurant from the main dining room. As always, the service was impeccable and we enjoyed a nice dinner.

We enjoyed a lovely sunset from our  balcony before heading to the martini bar for a nightcap

We stopped by the Martini Bar for a nightcap and to spend some time authoring this blog. Our itinerary is as follows:
We spend the next two days at sea.
We will be in Bermuda on Sunday
We will be at sea for six days
We will be in Cork, Ireland a week from Sunday - going to Blarney Castle
The next day, we're in Portland, Dorset, UK
Le Havre, France - heading to Normandy
Southampton, England - we disembark, transfer to London, and take the train through the Chunnel to Paris
We'll be in Paris for a week before heading back home

As always, I'll do my best to blog daily and document our travels.

We love having you all with us. We lose an hour tonight, so until tomorrow - good night!
