20241205 Seabourn Sojourn Grand Africa Cruise Day 10/96 - Sea Day

Grand Africa Cruise Trip Day 10/96 - Sea Day Fun and Games

We awoke with a breakfast plan this morning - biscuits and sausage gravy. We gave a recipe to the chef yesterday and they said they would give it a go. We let them know when we arrived in The Colannade and a few minutes later, our breakfast arrived.

The color of that gravy is pretty true to what it looked like - cream sauce

We'll score this as "close". The white gravy was more of a cream sauce. The crumbled sausage was sliced link sausage. The biscuits seemed right. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad. It just wasn't biscuits and sausage gravy. Part of it seemed to be a language thing as no matter how we described crumbled sausage, they seemed confused. Obviously, even with a recipe, they interpreted white gravy differently. Still, kudos for the effort to make guests happy. We did enjoy it, even if it wasn't perfect. We might try again, but if we do, we'll have to figure out another approach. Unfortunately, I doubt that Arlona saying, "Here, move over and I'll show you how", won't fly.

The weather continues to improve with the temperature working upwards a degree or two each day.  That worked out well as Seabourn put on a Fun Fair outside on Deck 8 this morning. What is a Fun Fair? It offered a series of stations designed to test guest's skills. They had:
  • Baggo
  • The equivalent of beer pong
  • A strength challenge where you had to hold weights with straight arms and shoulder height
  • Identify the officers
  • Tie nautical knots
  • Plot the ship's position on a nautical map
  • Putt a golf ball through an intricate maze
  • Stuff two over-stuff pillows into pillowcases as fast as possible
  • Guess the price of a gift basket
We tried several of the games and had fun doing them, even if we didn't get the best time/score.

You started putting from the far end, working your way around the maze unit you hit the drum

Arlona continued with her art classes.

Inspiration

Arlona wasn't happy with her results but to her credit, she keeps working hard at it

A really pretty seascape

I attended a talk about how to train diplomats to work in Africa and other volatile areas of the world. Later in the afternoon, we went to the port talk about our two upcoming ports in Cabo Verde.

Afterward, we went to Deck 10-forward to the Observation Bar for a pre-dinner cocktail. We also caught a nice sunset.

We were invited to another hosted dinner with Amber, a vocalist on the ship. We enjoyed dinner and conversation with a couple other guests.

Tonight's entertainment was a show by singer Ricardo Afonso. He is a multi-talented singer and performer. We met him a few days ago and have spent some time with him. He's a very nice guy and it will be a shame to see him leave us in Cabo Verde.

His show was high-energy with songs from icons like Freddie Mercury, Steve Perry, Richard Farnum, Whitney Houston, and Stevie Wonder

Tomorrow will be our third of four sea days as we sail toward Cabo Verde.
