20241211 Seabourn Sojourn Grand Africa Cruise Day 16/96 - Sea Day

Grand Africa Cruise Trip Day 16/96 - Sea Day activities and a promise of Christmas

Seabourn brand ambassadors - more on this below

We are on our second of four consecutive sea days. Here is a rundown of today's sea day activities.

After breakfast, I participated in another golf putting challenge. The unnamed winning golfer, who won after a two-hole sudden-death playoff, came home with a Seabourn travel umbrella.

Oh, look - a Seaboune travel umbrella

We attended a cooking demonstration by Chef Ainsley where he prepared his curry-marinated chicken. That will be the chef's special in The Restaraunt tonight.

Trivia was another bust today and we seem to be in a downward spiral.
Our mistakes:
  • Mimi and Rodolfo were characters from what opera?
    • We had no idea - it was La Boheme
  • "She and I have a lot of catching up to do" was a phrase from advertisements for what drug?
    • We guessed Cialis, but it was the obvious, Viagra
  • Papaphobia is the fear of what?
    • We guessed butterflies - it is The Pope
  • What is the best-selling video game franchise of all time?
    • We guessed Halo, but it is the Mario franchise in all its iterations
We also missed the bonus question - what European country ended its monarchy in 1910. It was Portugal. We have work to do over the next few days.

Arlona had a couple of watercolor projects today - fishing boats of Mindelo and seahorses. Here is the seahorse project.

The inspiration

Arlona's interpretation

Since this is a sea day, I have time to share more observations about Seabourn. It is a mixed bag. For example, the bath towels are by far, the largest and nicest of any we have had on any cruise line, and even most hotels. Then, you look at the suite door and you see this messy fit and finish on the lockset.

It has also been a little disappointing that the ship has no Christmas decorations. But...we heard a rumor that some elves may be paying the ship a visit overnight. We will see what tomorrow holds.

We attended a port talk about our next port, Abidjan, Ivory Coast. From there, we went to Name That Tune, music trivia. Out of 40 possible points (20 songs, artist, and title), we scored 37/40 but lost out to another team with 38. Doh! After the game, Arlona spotted this stowaway, catching a ride to the Ivory Coast.

After dinner, we decided tonight was a Christmas movie night, as we weren't in the mood for tonight's entertainment, a guitarist. Before heading to the room, we took a walk, passing by Seabourn Square on Deck #7. This is where Guest Services is located as well as Destination Services and the Future Cruise Consultant. As we walked around, we spotted that group of ambassadors in the opening photo.

Eddie

They spend all day on the couch, occasionally visiting some of the service desks. It is a fun touch.

As I type this, we're watching A Bad Mom's Christmas to continue getting in the Christmas Spirit. We're excited to see what tomorrow holds.

  1. Hello Gary -- I just caught up with your blog from this new cruise. I followed you along with two others on the Viking World Cruise in 2020-21 and both of them -- Ted and Rose and the couple RoundtheWorldWriter are taking another Viking world cruise setting out very soon. This one goes to a bunch of ports you missed and many African ports. I'm interested in following how each company does with the African ports. Thanks for the very informative postings -- all the ship pictures especially. We hadn't considered any other company -- we love Viking -- but this is a tempting itinerary. We were diplomats in Africa so I'm curious about that "conversation" you attended. We live in Oregon -- a gorgeous state! I'm surprised you haven't managed to get here yet. I hope you'll mention when segments change and whether the atmosphere of the ship alters with the other passengers changing. Thanks again for your posts.
