Grand Africa Cruise Trip Day 55/96 - Sea Day Activities
We're on our first of three sea days before our huge safari adventure.
We woke up a bit early and were able to catch the end of the Washington/Detroit playoff game that sadly ended Detroit's season. At least we don't have to worry about not being able to see Detroit in the Super Bowl this year.
We are sailing southwest in the Mozambique Channel towards Durban, South Africa.
We will arrive there Wednesday morning. That means today, Sunday, plus Monday and Tuesday will be sea days.
Sea days mean activities and that means Baggo. They mixed it up today, forming two-person teams. It was once again a lot of fun with lots of smiles and laughter. We didn't win, but everyone had fun.
Arlona worked on beading projects today, producing colorful earrings and a necklace.
Cruise Director, Nick, promised that trivia today would be tough and he was right. Lots of teams struggled and we remain firmly in the middle of the pack. We were joined by the officers today, including Captain Hamish.
- Who composed The Marriage of Figaro?
- We didn't know - one person said Mozart as a guess but we decided on Vivaldi - of course, it was Mozart
- What is the loudest animal on earth?
- We thought it was the blue whale, but it was the sperm whale
- What country produces the most coffee?
- We guessed Colombia but it was Brazil (followed by Viet Nam and then Colombia
- Where was Eva Peron's body initially secretly buried?
- Milan
- Sir Tim Rice won three Acadamy Awards for Best Original Song. Name them.
- We had nothing. They were 1992 for "A Whole New World" from Aladdin, 1994 for "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" from The Lion King, and 1996 for "You Must Love Me" from the film version of Evita
This afternoon, Cruise Director, Nick did another 100-yard golf challenge using his electronic swing analyzer.
There were 28 participants - by far the most for the cruise. The winner hit a 99.8-yard shot - pretty darn accurate. I finished fifth out of 28 with a 96.1-yard shot. Respectable but not on the podium.
We enjoyed our usual cocktails in the Observation Bar followed by dinner in The Colonnade. They were offering Polynesian chicken and it was very good. We sent laundry out this morning so we would have all clean clothes ready for packing for our safari. Tonight, of course, something on my plate flipped up, getting grease on my shirt. I had two other shirts that needed personal attention so we did a little hand-cleaning with detergent and shampoo and then tossed a small load in the launderette. It is right around the corner from our room and that's convenient. There are two, across the hall from each other. Each one offers a washer, dryer, ironing board, and detergent.
As the clothes got clean, I wrapped up this missive for the evening. Tomorrow is another sea day. It will feature something called a Teddy Bear Tumble. Tune in tomorrow for all the fun.
