Grand Africa Cruise Trip Day 56/96 - Sea Day Air Bears

The bear's reaction when he heard about the plan

No Baggo today. Instead, Cruise Director Nick and his henchman, Entertainment Manager Rhys, conducted the first-ever Teddy Bear Tumble. This event had guests tossing Seabourn cruising teddy bears from Deck #8 in the atrium down to Deck #4.

That's a long way down

The target

The goal was to land the bear in a small can. Doing so meant the guest won the bear. Each guest tossed two bears. Several guests, including me, hit the can but only one guest landed the bear in the can. Then, we moved to Deck #7 and repeated the air bear toss again. Once again, several guests, including me, hit the can but nobody won another bear. They had around 20 - 30 bears and Nick & Rhys took turns handing them to guests or gathering them from Deck #4 and running them back up.

It was huge fun and the staircase was lined with participants and spectators. We all had lots of cheers, groans, and laughs. Well, everyone but one.

How he started the day and how he finished the day with assistance from Seabourn Medical

Several of the bears did lose eyes and we could see them bouncing on the ground after the bear hit the floor. Oh, the horror! :-)

Trivia proved to be a challenge again today. We do not have high hopes of finishing well in this accumulative tournament. We will miss the last two events while we're off the ship on our safari. Today's failures:
  • What five-time Grand Slam winner tested positive for a banned substance in the 2016 Australian Open?
    • We guessed Serena Williams - it was Maria Sharapova
  • What country, in 1893, created the first driving test?
    • We guessed Germany - it was France
  • In the London Underground, which line is shown in green on the maps?
    • We had no idea - it was the District Line
  • Who designed the German military uniforms used in WWII?
    • We guessed Himmler - it was Hugo Boss
  • What is the most venomous fish?
    • We guessed puffer, which is poisonous, not venomous - the stone fish is venomous
Arlona completed her long-term watercolor project today. It turned out great!

Like she did on our world cruise, this is a painting of the flags of all the countries we ultimately will visit on this journey - what a terrific memento

We continued sailing southwest through the Mozambique Channel. It really underscores how big Madagascar is when we've sailed alongside the island for nearly two days and we haven't yet cleared it.

We played Name That Tune this afternoon. Once again, we came in second, but today, it was by a large margin. Some folks on the ship really know their music.

We made a reservation for dinner tonight at The Colonnade. Generally, you don't need a reservation to dine there, but tonight was another family-style fried chicken night. During pre-dinner drinks at the Observation Bar, we hooked up with two other couples who were also going to The Colonnade. We got there and asked for a table for six and dinner together. It was a terrific dinner with great food and great conversation.

As we dined, the Sun, who was hiding behind rain clouds in the distance, decided to make an appearance as it faded into the horizon.

Look at all that rain to the right of the Sun

Rain to the left, rain to the right

And fire in the middle

Going, going

Gone

It was another repeat show tonight so we decided to skip it. We also shifted the clocks back another hour tonight to align with South Africa time. That puts us at UTC+2 or seven hours ahead of the U.S. East Coast. We have our last sea day in the Indian Ocean tomorrow before arriving at Durban and departing for our safari adventure.
