20250121 Seabourn Sojourn Grand Africa Cruise Day 57/96 - Sea Day

Grand Africa Cruise Trip Day 57/96 - Sea Day Packing

The weather met us, and the ship rocked and rolled all night. Personally, we like that, but we know that some folks are bothered by the ship's movement. This morning was more of the same, with decent waves and swells and constant fore/aft and side/side movement.

We started our day with another wonderful serving of biscuits and sausage gravy. We had an extra serving and offered it to the Cruise Director, Nick. As a Brit, like most non-US folks, he had never heard of it. To his great surprise, he absolutely loved it.

His surprise at how good it was showed

Here we are, spreading southern U.S. cuisine internationally as a form of diplomacy.

Baggo today had yet another twist. You had to call your shot for each bag. It was the typical setup with a close and far board scoring 10/20 or 30/40 for a bag on the board or in the hole. The twist was if you called the 30-point on the far board shot, for example, and made that 30-point shot, you got your 30 points. If you hit anywhere else or missed altogether, you lost 30 points. In the end, only two of us wound up with a score above zero. We had a four-bag playoff using our non-dominant hand. I should have played conservatively but got aggressive, made a couple of bad tosses, and lost. Still, these daily twists to the game have been a lot of fun and everyone seems to enjoy it.

Arlona did more beading projects today producing this nice necklace and bracelet.

Trivia today went well. We missed only one question and got three of the five possible answers in the bonus.
  • What musical instrument has 47 strings and seven pedals?
    • We guessed harpsichord, but it was a harp - I had no idea harps had pedals
  • What were the most valuable beer brands in 2024?
    • We got Corona, Heineken, and Budweiser, but guessed Guinness and Stella Artois, but they were Bud Light and Modelo
There are two more sessions to go on this leg of the cruise but the team will have to soldier on without us as we get off the ship for a week starting tomorrow.

Speaking of that, we needed to pack so that was part of this afternoon's activities.

We took a break for Name That Tune. Nick sprung show tunes on us and it went poorly for us as expected, scoring only 20/45 points. One team requested the category and unsurprisingly, they won in a huge way. It also wasn't a lot of fun for most of the other teams. Oh well.

We enjoyed drinks and dinner followed by tonight's variety show featuring the Seabourn Six singers (no dancers tonight), followed by guest entertainers Corlea, JD Mars, and Ruhan Du Toit, plus Cruise Director, Nick.

It was a nice show with some very talented performers.

We headed back to the suite for some additional packing and bed. Tomorrow, we'll do the last-minute packing and get ready to fly to Johannesburg. South Africa. We're excited about beginning this safari adventure.
