20250214 Seabourn Sojourn Grand Africa Cruise Day 81/96 - Sea Day

Grand Africa Cruise Trip Day 81/96 - Sea Day 4/4 - Valentine's Day

Today was our final day at sea on this four-day run between Togo and The Gambia. It was also Valentine's Day.  We started our day with a lovely breakfast of heart-shaped biscuits and sausage gravy.

Once again, it was yummy, even if they were a little stingy on the sausage - several other guests  have heard about it and enjoyed it this morning as well

We played Baggo after breakfast today. Neither of us was on our game today, but as always, it was a fun group of folks and we all had a good time.

Arlona completed her more complex painting project this morning - a cityscape.

It is reminiscent of a scene we saw in Luderitz, Namibia

Arlona also whipped up this beautiful card for me

Done, from the time I met her

Trivia was hit-and-miss today. We missed a couple of questions plus the bonus question.
  • How many years passed between the Wright Brothers' first successful controlled flight and Neil Armstrong stepping onto the lunar surface?
    • We couldn't remember when the first flight was and guessed 1911, so 58 years between then and 1969 - the first flight was 1903, so it was 66 years
  • Arabic numbers originated in what country?
    • We guessed Persia as did many of the teams - one team got the correct answer and double points - India
  • Today's bonus was seemingly easy but only two teams got it correct - What is the only country with a name that ends with the letter "h"?
    • I'll put the answer a little farther down so you can guess
A nice cake was under glass in The Colonnade when we arrived for lunch

Arlona painted again this afternoon.

We played Name That Tune this afternoon. We had a good day, scoring 32/40, and naming 20 songs and artists. Another team was on fire and scored 36/40 for the win.

In honor of Valentine's Day, the attire for dinner tonight was formal. We got all dolled up and went for a drink before heading to dinner.

Riding up to Deck #10 and the Observation Bar

Looking all Valentine-y

Both The Restaurant and The Colonnade offered special meals so we were torn as to which to enjoy. In the end, The Restaurant and our favorite waiter, Kristof, won. The Restaurant had a special multi-course meal.

The menu - the main course was the only choice - everything else was set

Tuna Tataki and cavier

White plum tomato cappuccino

Seared scallop

The palette cleanser - we added asti rather than champagne

We both chose the short ribs but...

We also ordered a lobster tail to split

The special dessert

And the frozen pralines

They had cleared a large section of The Restaurant. Chelsey and the band played love songs. Ronni and Kerry from the Seabourn Six, Cruise Director Nick, Entertainment Manager Rhys, and Fleet Cruise Director John added their voices and sang numbers. They had removed several tables, creating a large open area where guests could dance. It added a nice dimension to a romantic meal.

We decided to skip tonight's singer and just return to the suite. This was waiting for us.

Some kind of sweet - we were too full to try them tonight

A romantic setting for the bed

We got a nice note too

We will dock in Banjul, The Gambia tomorrow morning and take an excursion to an animal rehabilitation reserve for a nature walk.

Oh - that sole country with a name that ends in "h"? Bangladesh.
