20250430 Regent Seven Seas Voyager Cruise Bangkok to Dubai, Day 9, Singapore Bird Paradise

Regent Seven Seas Voyager Bangkok to Dubai Day 9 - Singapore - Winging it

The alarm went off way too early, especially after staying up late fighting with the ship's awful internet to get yesterday's photos to load. Why did we get up early? Our tour was meeting in the Constellation Theater at 8:10 this morning. In the grand scheme of things, that was a good thing since we were going to be outside, and this kept us cooler (like the cool side of the toaster) and out of the rain forecast for this afternoon.

It took about 45 minutes in morning traffic to reach Bird Paradise.

The relatively new park is divided into multiple "lands" with each holding a unique variety of birds. I'm not going to identify every bird we saw, so just enjoy the photos.

We started in the penguin exhibit

After the penguins, we headed out and started exploring.

We attended a show featuring birds of prey.

Snagging a treat out of the air

This guy snuck on stage

After the show, we continued exploring.

We were feeling all bird-like, so we put on our wings.

We returned to the ship and grabbed lunch in the buffet before returning to the cabin and working on all these photos.

We hit up skee ball to gather more Regent points before going to trivia. We came in second, scoring 14/15 - yes, a perfect score was necessary to win. Our sole miss:

  • To what inventor did Helen Keller dedicate her autobiography?
    • We guessed Louis Braille - it was Alexander Graham Bell
We returned to our room and then came out into the hallway at 6:00 for Regent's block party. Much like Seabourn, they have block parties where they ask guests to come out into the hallway near their rooms and meet their neighbors. Also like Seabourn, the senior officers come by to greet you. Very much unlike Seabourn, where the officers engage with guests, the Regent officers clink a glass and hurry along. We've been very disappointed in the guest engagement from the senior officers. On other cruise lines like Viking and Seabourn, where the senior officers made us feel like valued guests and that they were happy we were giving them our business, the Regent officers couldn't care less. Oh well, this is why we tried the cruise line. We're learning what is better and what is far worse.

Afterward, we hit Compass Rose for a nice dinner. The guest magician from a couple of nights ago was on tonight. Since he didn't impress on that night, we decided to skip tonight's show.

We did make a travel change. The trip here was long. It took 32 hours, door-to-door, from our home to the pre-stay hotel. Our return flights were equally as bad. We had explored different flights, but it was crazy expensive to make that change. We talked to the ship's concierge, and he put in a request for a change for us. Yesterday, he offered us an option and we took it. Rather than flying from Dubai to Doha to Chicago to Tampa, we are now flying from Dubai direct to Orlando. While the change wasn't cheap, it was about 25% of what we were quoted before the trip. The flight is 15 hours and 35 minutes, so we're saving ourselves at least ten hours of travel. Woo!

Tomorrow, we will dock in Port Klang, Malaysia, and have our second visit to Kuala Lumpur.
